Freeway by Lee Vause

Features

ARTIST NOTES: Mourning the sad loss some months ago of the skeletal rustic “Ram’s Head” in between the Skye and Cranbourne Road exits of the Peninsula Link freeway (Victoria, Australia)and being absorbed in the most recent and topical media discussions about recycling and waste management “Freeway” this somewhat quirky Merino Ram emerged. In creating “Freeway” the technique used included colour and graphite pencils for the eyes. The horns were made from recycled paper and colour pencils as a collage feature. The nose was created with heavy duty cream paper. In terms of the papers used this included a brown paper shopping bag for the horns, used tissue and computer paper which was put through a home paper shredder for the purpose of creating the effect of dense sheep’s wool. The shredded computer paper was also curled to add more effect. The facial features and ears were created from handmade and eco friendly papers.
